The private exchange industry is challenged by the costs associated with the sharing and transmitting of data between multiple business partners without having established uniform data standards and protocols—especially in the group and ancillary markets. A primary focus of the PEC is the development of efficient and cost effective interoperability standards and technologies for data transactions between vendors, health plans and ancillary carriers.

The PEC has developed the Interoperability and Standards Work Group that is meeting on a regular basis identify opportunities for development of industry standards and streamlined system interoperability.
